About SLOHomes
SLOHomes is an independent guide to housing in San Luis Obispo County. We aren't a brokerage or a lender, and we don't sell leads.
Who's behind SLOHomes
I'm Jon, a fire captain. I grew up in the Santa Ynez Valley, graduated from Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, and have been part of the San Luis Obispo community since 1988.
I bought my first home here in 2000, a fixer with a big yard in one of SLO's older neighborhoods. People told me I got the last great deal in town, and some days I believe them. I love to build, create and take photos, and I publish SLO Weekly, a local digital publication covering the county.
I built SLOHomes to be the resource I wish I'd had: honest numbers, plain-English rules, and links to the real sources. My hope is that it helps future buyers find their way here, and helps bring working families back to our little section of paradise.
Where the data comes from
- Listings, inventory, days on market: Realtor.com monthly housing inventory for the San Luis Obispo–Paso Robles–Arroyo Grande metro area, via the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED).
- Home values and rents: Zillow Home Value Index (ZHVI) and Observed Rent Index (ZORI), where available for SLO city and county.
- Mortgage rates: Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey (weekly U.S. average).
- Loan limits: FHFA conforming loan limits and HUD FHA mortgage limits.
Data refreshes monthly using an automated script. Each chart includes its raw numbers and a link to the source.
How we keep it accurate
Every rule and number in our guides links to the official source. Guides show the date they were last reviewed. If you spot an error, tell us and we'll fix it.
